These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Cortex Engines, including cortexengines.com and all associated products and services ("the Platform"). By accessing or using the Platform, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Platform.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account or using any part of the Cortex Engines platform, you confirm that you are at least 16 years of age and have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms. If you are using the Platform on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have the authority to bind that organization to these Terms.
2. Description of Service
Cortex Engines is a decision-support platform with two core workflows. ASK researches questions and produces evidence-backed answers. CHECK evaluates supplied claims or documents against retained evidence and produces structured verification reports. Configured AI systems may assist reasoning and synthesis, but model output is not evidence. The Platform does not make decisions on your behalf and does not replace professional judgment.
3. User Accounts
You must create an account to access certain features of the Platform. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to provide accurate and complete information when creating your account and to keep this information up to date. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or that we reasonably believe have been compromised.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree to use the Platform only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You agree not to: use the Platform to process content that is illegal, harmful, defamatory, or violates the rights of others; attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or extract proprietary algorithms from the Platform; use automated tools to scrape, crawl, or extract data from the Platform without permission; attempt to circumvent usage quotas, authentication systems, or access controls; resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the Platform without authorization; introduce malware, viruses, or other harmful code; or use the Platform in any way that damages, disables, or impairs our infrastructure.
5. AI-Generated Output Disclaimer
Cortex Engines uses artificial intelligence systems to assist with research, retrieval, analysis, and verification. You acknowledge that generated output may contain errors, inaccuracies, or omissions; Cortex Engines does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any output generated by the Platform; the Cortex Trust Score is an evidence-derived index, not a literal probability or an absolute truth determination; confidence, integrity, agreement, and verdict diagnostics are indicators, not guarantees; and the Platform may fail to identify all relevant claims, contradictions, or risks in a document. All output generated by Cortex Engines should be treated as a starting point for further human review, not as a final determination.
6. No Professional Advice
The Platform does not provide legal, financial, medical, regulatory, or any other form of professional advice. Nothing generated by Cortex Engines should be construed as such. If you are making decisions with legal, financial, medical, or regulatory implications, you should consult a qualified professional. Cortex Engines provides AI-assisted analysis and decision support information only. You remain solely responsible for all decisions you make based on or informed by Platform output.
7. Credits, Subscriptions, and Payment Terms
Cortex Engines provides a limited promotional Snapshot allowance and offers Cortex Analysis Credits through one-time purchases and monthly or yearly subscriptions. A one-time credit pack is non-recurring. Monthly plans allocate credits after each successful monthly payment; yearly plans allocate the annual credits after each successful yearly payment or renewal. All allocations enter the same usable balance, and subscribers may buy one-time top-ups. Payments are processed by Stripe. Subscriptions renew at the cadence shown at checkout unless cancelled before renewal. Cancellation stops future renewals and does not erase otherwise valid purchased credits already in the shared balance. We may change subscription pricing with reasonable notice to active subscribers.
8. Refund Policy
We do not automatically refund unused credit packs or unused portions of a subscription period. If you believe you were charged in error, contact support@cortexengines.com within 30 days and we will review the request. Monetary refunds are separate from automatic restoration of reserved Cortex Analysis Credits when an eligible paid operation fails and produces no usable result. Refunds may otherwise be provided where required by law or at our discretion.
9. Intellectual Property
The Cortex Engines platform, including its design, code, algorithms, branding, and content, is owned by Cortex Engines and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from the Platform without our written permission. You retain ownership of the content you submit to the Platform. By submitting content, you grant us a limited license to process that content for the purpose of providing the service to you. Reports generated by the Platform based on your inputs may be used, shared, and reproduced by you for your own professional purposes.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Cortex Engines and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, or business opportunities, arising out of or related to your use of the Platform. Our total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of the Platform shall not exceed the amount you paid to us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $100, whichever is greater.
11. Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the Platform at any time, with or without notice, if we determine that you have violated these Terms or if we discontinue the service. You may terminate your account at any time by contacting us. Upon termination, your right to access the Platform ceases immediately.
12. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which Cortex Engines operates, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the Platform shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation before any formal proceedings are initiated.
13. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify active users. Continued use of the Platform after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
